The Art of Wellness

'Health is a state of body. Wellness is a state of being.' J. Stanford

Prevention versus treatment

Stress and disease are on the rise, so thinking about how we can improve our wellbeing as a whole is the most useful thing we can do for ourselves. Health promotion and being proactive about our health is much more desirable than seeking a cure for illness later on. The less actively we take measures to protect our health, the more actively we will be seeking disease treatment at some stage.

Conventional medicine tends to focus on disease cure and treatment, and will often treat each complaint as a separate entity. We tend to seek help when we are already ill, but there is a different way.

By actively implementing change to improve our 'Wellness,' we can reduce our chances of needing intervention later along the line. In effect, we can protect ourselves from many types of illnesses.

However Wellness is not just about preventing disease, it is also about becoming the best version of yourself. Wellness is a way of living. You just require a desire to improve your lifestyle and to set aside time to make the positive changes and then enjoy the journey along the way.

Why choose wellness?

Wellness focuses on not only prolonging our lives but also having an excellent quality of life throughout our years. It does not just focus on our physical health such as diet, exercise and illness prevention. It combines all aspects of our well-being including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual areas.

It uses a holistic approach, thinking of a person as a complete entity with all these areas being intimately interlinked at a deep level.  It is about transforming your life energy so it works for you in a more efficient and productive way. Being physically and mentally healthy can enhance your happiness, and improve your life in so many ways. People will often find that they can achieve a quality of life that they did not imagine as being possible.

It's all about mindset

To live a life long with vibrant health requires a certain mindset. Knowledge, understanding, willingness, patience, and practice are the key components. Making relatively simple lifestyle changes once practised become second nature with time, and your new way of life. When you have integrated these changes, you’ll then start to notice the significant benefits to your wellbeing. Fatigue and an overworked mind and body do not have to be your way of life.

I believe learning is a lifelong process, by keeping an open mind, we open ourselves up to new possibilities, and subsequently, we can make better-informed choices.

Using the tools of Wellness

An understanding of how your body works and learning how to increase your body awareness helps you read the subtle cues when something is not right. This allows you to make the necessary changes.

Wellness involves learning tools that can help us with our:-

Mind

Change unhelpful thought processes so that we can learn to be happier, peaceful, positive and more productive with our time.

Body

Nurture our body with health enhancing foods, reducing many symptoms such as bloating, indigestion and fatigue. Learning how to strengthen our bodies, making them more supple and flexible, increasing our vitality and performance, and reducing stiffness, aches and pains.

Soul

Centre ourselves, enhance our awareness so that we can feel calm under stressful circumstances, and improving any feelings of irritability and anxiety.

When we become disconnected from ourselves, physical and mental ailments tend to take hold. All areas of ourselves body, mind and soul are interconnected, and we function better if treated as a whole instead of each entity separately.
